Carefos acquires Augenbroe Glas, enhancing expertise in large renovation and sustainability glass projects. Read about the strategic expansion.
Batavorum Capital-backed Carefos has acquired Augenbroe Glas, a family-owned glass installation company with over 45 years of experience, effective April 13, 2026. This strategic move strengthens Carefos’ Glass Division by integrating Augenbroe Glas’ expertise in large residential, utility, and renovation projects, significantly expanding Carefos’ geographic coverage and service capabilities within the Netherlands.
Founded in 1980 by Alex Ritzerfeld and Pierre Augenbroe under the name Glashandel Ritzerfeld, Augenbroe Glas evolved into a family business after Ritzerfeld’s retirement. Based in Kerkrade, the company specializes in large-scale glass installation and renovation projects, with a strong reputation for handling complex and sustainable building refurbishments.
Carefos, established in 2021, operates as a comprehensive provider focused on the sustainability of building exteriors. It unites multiple specialist companies to offer a broad portfolio of services aimed at reducing CO2 emissions and improving building performance. Currently, Carefos employs over 600 specialists across various disciplines related to building envelopes.
Rob and Bart Augenbroe, key figures in the family business, emphasized the strategic rationale behind the acquisition: “With growing market demand for comprehensive glass solutions, partnering with Carefos allows us to scale and enhance our expertise while continuing to focus on what we do best. This step secures the future for our team and clients.”
Cara Stekelenburg, Commercial Director of Carefos Glas, highlighted the complementary nature of the deal: “Augenbroe Glas’ specialist knowledge in large projects perfectly complements Stekelenburg Glas, which focuses on service and damage repair. Together, we can efficiently manage large-scale projects and respond quickly to client needs, leveraging overlapping geographic areas for joint opportunities.”
The acquisition is expected to generate multiple synergies, including cross-selling opportunities, expanded access to renovation and sustainability contracts, and operational efficiencies through shared procurement and administrative consolidation. Integrating Augenbroe Glas’ project management expertise with Carefos’ existing service capabilities will enhance the group’s ability to deliver complex projects at scale.
Market trends indicate increasing demand for sustainable building renovations, driven by regulatory pressures and client preferences for energy-efficient solutions. Carefos’ expanded portfolio positions it well to capitalize on these trends, potentially increasing its market share in the glass solutions sector.
While no financial terms were disclosed, the acquisition represents a full 100% stake transfer. Carefos plans to integrate Augenbroe Glas’ operations smoothly, focusing on retaining key personnel and aligning corporate cultures to maintain service quality during the transition.
Looking ahead, Carefos aims to leverage this acquisition to accelerate its growth as a one-stop-shop for building sustainability solutions, enhancing its competitive position and delivering greater value to clients through comprehensive glass and facade services.
