VDK Groep acquires Lumeco LED Professionals, adding 61 employees and enhancing indoor LED lighting solutions. Read about the strategic deal and market impact.
EMK Capital-backed VDK Groep has acquired Lumeco LED Professionals, a Hendrik-Ido Ambacht-based company specializing in indoor LED lighting solutions. The acquisition, announced on April 17, 2026, brings Lumeco’s expertise in design, advice, installation, and service under the VDK Groep umbrella, along with its proprietary lighting product range and 61 employees.
Lumeco was founded nearly 20 years ago by brothers Stefan and Wouter Plomp, who started the company from a small attic office with the goal of improving lighting solutions for organizations ranging from private companies to government entities. Over the years, Lumeco has completed notable projects including lighting installations at the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam, the University Medical Center Utrecht, DSM’s office in Waalwijk, and the city hall in Apeldoorn.
Stefan Plomp reflects on the company’s journey: “We have completed some remarkable projects and built a loyal team. Joining VDK Groep marks an exciting next phase for us.” His brother Wouter adds, “Lighting is more than a niche; it requires sophisticated design knowledge to add value to complex building plans. We have proven this daily with our approach, ‘a different light on the matter.’”
Frans van der Kolk, CEO and founder of VDK Groep, welcomes Lumeco warmly: “Lumeco is a multiple FD-Gazelle award winner and a fast-growing company. Lighting significantly impacts comfort and experience in buildings, and we see strong potential for collaboration across our businesses. We are pleased to welcome Stefan, Wouter, and their 61 colleagues to our family of companies.”
The acquisition strengthens VDK Groep’s position in the indoor lighting segment, particularly in LED solutions for commercial and institutional buildings within the Netherlands. Lumeco’s full-service offering—from design and consultancy to installation and aftercare—complements VDK’s existing building services portfolio.
Strategically, the deal enables VDK Groep to cross-sell lighting solutions to its current client base and expand its service offerings in both new construction and retrofit projects. Operational synergies include shared procurement efficiencies, consolidated back-office functions, and integrated project management. The combined expertise is expected to enhance innovation and support the development of integrated smart lighting solutions aligned with building automation trends.
Industry observers note that this acquisition accelerates consolidation in the lighting and building services sector, potentially increasing competitive pressure. Competitors may respond with similar acquisitions or partnerships to strengthen their lighting capabilities and invest in energy-efficient technologies.
While no financial terms were disclosed, the acquisition involves a full 100% stake transfer. Integration challenges include aligning corporate cultures, retaining key technical staff, and managing client expectations during the transition.
Looking ahead, VDK Groep plans to leverage Lumeco’s reputation and technical expertise to scale operations and serve larger, more complex projects. The combined entity aims to deliver enhanced value to clients through integrated lighting and building solutions, reinforcing VDK Groep’s market leadership in the Netherlands.
Since the start of 2026, VDK Groep has been on a remarkable acquisition spree, completing no fewer than 13 transactions in just over three months. The Dutch installation group has rapidly expanded its footprint across the Netherlands and Germany, adding companies in electrical, HVAC, and now LED lighting. Starting with Pasmans/Gasgarde in South Netherlands in January, the group swept through a series of German acquisitions, including ITG, Schorr GmbH, Klein Bad & Heizung, and the landmark Builtech deal that positioned VDK as a leading player in the European installation market. Back in the Netherlands, the group added SDR (Amsterdam), Van Bakel Elektro, Bos Installatietechniek, Sommen-Gosens, Haitsma (Bleiswijk), and most recently Lumeco LED Professionals, signalling a clear intent to diversify beyond traditional installation services into energy-efficient lighting. With this pace of consolidation, VDK Groep is emerging as one of the most active buy-and-build platforms in the European installation sector.
