VDK Groep Acquires Borgtechniek and Westerdijk in Installation Sector

VDK Groep acquires Borgtechniek and Westerdijk, expanding installation services in Northern Netherlands. Read about the strategic deal and market impact.

Since the start of 2026, EMK Capital-backed VDK Groep has been on a remarkable acquisition spree, and April 22, 2026, marked yet another milestone with the simultaneous acquisition of two Northern Netherlands installation specialists: Borgtechniek, headquartered in Winschoten, and Westerdijk, based in Delfzijl. Both companies are well-established players in the installation technology sector, delivering comprehensive services across commercial real estate and industrial projects in the Groningen region. The dual acquisition brings VDK Groep’s total to 15 transactions in just four months, further cementing its position as one of the most active buy-and-build platforms in the European installation sector and extending its geographic coverage to the northern tip of the Netherlands.

Borgtechniek, founded in 1970, and Westerdijk, with a history dating back to 1910, specialize in electrical installations, cooling technology, security and communication systems, and inspection services. Their client base includes office buildings, large residential care complexes, utilities, and industrial environments. Post-project, both companies maintain long-term involvement through maintenance and service contracts.

The acquisition involves a full transfer of ownership, with no financial details disclosed. Current owners Cor Grozema of Borgtechniek and Jaap Siertsema of Westerdijk remain actively involved in daily operations, ensuring a smooth transition and continuity for clients and employees. Together, the two companies employ 52 staff members.

Frans van der Kolk, CEO and founder of VDK Groep, highlights the strategic importance of the deal: “Increasing regulatory demands and a tight labor market challenge installation companies. By integrating Borgtechniek and Westerdijk, we add strength, expertise, and scale, enabling these companies to focus on their core competencies and growth.” He further emphasizes the value of their established local market presence and loyal customer base.

The acquisition enhances VDK Groep’s service portfolio, allowing cross-selling of installation and maintenance services across a broader client base. It also creates operational efficiencies through shared procurement, administrative consolidation, and optimized workforce deployment. The combined technical expertise improves project execution and regulatory compliance capabilities.

Market consolidation in the installation technology sector is accelerating, driven by labor shortages and increasing complexity of client demands. VDK Groep’s move positions it as a leading service provider in the Northern Netherlands, particularly in Oost-Groningen, strengthening its competitive stance against regional rivals.

Looking ahead, integration efforts will focus on aligning operational processes and IT systems while retaining key management and skilled employees amid a competitive labor market. The continued involvement of Borgtechniek and Westerdijk’s leadership is expected to mitigate integration risks and maintain client satisfaction.

Overall, the acquisition supports VDK Groep’s strategy of regional consolidation and service expansion, aiming to capture growth opportunities in commercial real estate and industrial sectors through enhanced service offerings and long-term client relationships.
