Urban Gym Group (UGG), backed by Jade Holdings, has acquired Vondelgym Rotterdam, a well-established fitness club known for its performance-driven and no-nonsense training culture. The acquisition, announced on May 4, 2026, marks a strategic expansion for UGG in one of the Netherlands’ most dynamic urban markets.
While financial terms were not disclosed, the deal involves rebranding Vondelgym Rotterdam as TrainMore Rotterdam de Meent, a premium TrainMore Black Label club. This transition will introduce new amenities including Reformer Pilates, a multifunctional training zone, HYROX endurance training, and a dedicated red-light therapy and recovery area. Members will also benefit from inclusive perks such as coffee, tea, protein shakes, and sports water, enhancing the overall club experience.
Urban Gym Group operates over 60 clubs and studios across the Netherlands and the UK. Its portfolio includes TrainMore, Gymbox in London, Clubsportive in Amsterdam, and boutique concepts like The CLB, RUSH, PILAT3S, and TRIB3. UGG is recognized for integrating performance, recovery, design, and community in its fitness offerings, alongside sustainability efforts through Gym Warehouse, which refurbishes fitness equipment.
Vondelgym Rotterdam has cultivated a loyal local community focused on consistent, high-quality training. Its culture aligns closely with UGG’s philosophy, particularly the emphasis on consistency exemplified by TrainMore’s €1 discount per workout. Neil Randall, CEO of Urban Gym Group, highlights this cultural fit: “Vondelgym is a place where people truly show up. That mindset is at the heart of everything we do.”
The acquisition supports UGG’s growth strategy combining organic expansion with targeted acquisitions in major cities. Randall adds, “We are actively looking for new opportunities. We welcome conversations with developers, landlords and gym owners with strong urban locations — in Rotterdam and beyond — who are interested in long-term partnerships.”
Industry trends show increasing demand for boutique fitness experiences and integrated recovery services, areas where UGG is investing heavily. The addition of Vondelgym strengthens UGG’s competitive position in Rotterdam, intensifying pressure on local fitness providers to enhance their offerings.
Operational synergies include standardizing training programs, leveraging UGG’s technology platforms, and consolidating administrative functions to achieve economies of scale. Cross-selling premium services and upselling boutique fitness options are expected to drive revenue growth, while shared marketing efforts will improve brand visibility.
Integration challenges may arise in aligning Vondelgym’s local culture with UGG’s brand standards and managing member retention during the rebranding process. Additionally, IT system integration and facility upgrades will require careful execution.
Looking ahead, UGG plans to complete the rebranding and facility enhancements promptly, aiming to deliver a seamless transition for members. The acquisition underscores UGG’s commitment to elevating urban fitness experiences through innovation, community engagement, and quality service.
