IDDS has completed the acquisition of Lodewijck Groep, a firm specializing in spatial planning and related legal services including environmental and administrative law. The deal aims to combine the strengths of both companies to offer a broader and more cohesive range of specialist services to clients in sectors such as project development, infrastructure, telecom, and government.
While financial terms of the acquisition were not disclosed, IDDS assumes full ownership of Lodewijck Groep. The transaction integrates Lodewijck Groep’s expertise in legal advisory, including environmental law and administrative law, with IDDS’s multidisciplinary knowledge in spatial development, ecology, archaeology, civil engineering, and project management. The combined entity now employs approximately 110 professionals.
IDDS supports clients throughout the entire development lifecycle, offering services in soil, archaeology, ecology, explosives management, planning, civil engineering, and construction management. Lodewijck Groep complements this with specialized legal services and the secondment of jurists and planners to municipalities and environmental agencies. The acquisition enables IDDS to deliver integrated legal and spatial planning advice under one roof.
Sibrand van Roijen, director of IDDS, states, “We warmly welcome the Lodewijck Groep team. Their addition expands our high-quality, multidisciplinary services within the spatial domain. This acquisition aligns with our vision of growth through collaboration with strong partners, enhancing our capacity to serve clients more comprehensively.”
Cees Kraaij, director of Lodewijck Groep, adds, “We are proud of the company built over sixteen years by our founder Basel Massaal. Maintaining our identity, this acquisition allows us to take the next step. The companies complement each other well, creating new opportunities for our colleagues. I look forward to leading the further development of spatial legal advisory services and collaborating with other disciplines within the group.”
Lodewijck Groep will continue to operate under its own name and maintain its existing client relationships, including legal and spatial advisory services and secondment arrangements for municipalities and environmental agencies. The firm will also preserve its partnerships with external consultancies. Within the group, Lodewijck Groep will take a leading role in legal and planning advisory services, connecting various expertises.
The acquisition reflects broader industry trends toward integrated multidisciplinary services in spatial development and legal compliance. By combining technical and legal expertise, IDDS aims to streamline project delivery, improve client service continuity, and enhance knowledge sharing. This positions the company as a leading consultancy in the Dutch spatial planning and environmental services market.
Financial details such as valuation multiples or funding sources were not disclosed. The integration will focus on aligning workflows between legal and technical teams while preserving Lodewijck Groep’s corporate culture and identity. Potential challenges include managing client expectations during the transition and realizing anticipated synergies in operational efficiency and cross-selling.
Looking ahead, IDDS plans to leverage the combined expertise to capture larger, complex development projects and expand its service portfolio. The acquisition is expected to increase client retention and operational effectiveness, reinforcing IDDS’s competitive position amid accelerating consolidation in the spatial and legal advisory sectors.
