Unica, backed by Triton Partners, has taken a majority ownership position in Van der Laan, a regional installation and technical services firm based in Zwaag, Noord-Holland. The acquisition, announced in April 2026, marks Unica’s fourth recent deal following its purchases of Niemeijer Installatietechniek in December 2025 and Nijmeijer Koeltechniek and Schoonebeek Klimaattechniek in March 2026. While financial terms were not disclosed, the transaction is a strategic move to strengthen Unica’s footprint in the Noord-Holland region.

Van der Laan, founded in 1938, employs approximately 120 staff and specializes in integrated technical solutions including electrical systems, energy management, security, process technology, and maintenance services. The company serves diverse sectors such as healthcare, education, commercial buildings, horticulture, and sports and recreation. Known for its strong regional ties and longstanding customer relationships, Van der Laan celebrates its 85th anniversary this year.

Following the acquisition, Van der Laan will become part of Unica’s Building Services cluster, which focuses on the management, maintenance, and project execution of building-related installations. The Zwaag location will remain operational, serving as a key regional base to support further growth in Noord-Holland. This integration is expected to enhance regional capacity and accelerate expansion efforts.

Herbert Rabelink, director of Unica Building Services, highlights the strategic fit: “With Van der Laan, we add a strong, customer-focused organization with deep regional roots and long-term relationships. This aligns perfectly with our strategy to operate close to the customer and grow our maintenance and project activities. The combination also opens opportunities to broaden our service offerings across Noord-Holland.”

Van der Laan will continue to operate under its own name, maintaining its entrepreneurial spirit and regional identity. Colin van der Laan, the company’s director and shareholder, remains in his leadership role and retains a significant ownership stake. CEO of Unica, Jilko Andringa, emphasizes the cultural alignment: “The Van der Laan family are entrepreneurs committed to their employees and delivering top-quality service. This acquisition strengthens our regional position and deepens our service capabilities. The shared focus on long-term relationships makes this a logical and valuable addition.”

Colin van der Laan adds, “We have experienced strong growth and established ourselves as a leading player in Noord-Holland. Joining Unica allows us to expand and deepen our services while preserving our identity and culture.”

The acquisition supports Unica’s growth strategy, which combines organic expansion with targeted acquisitions. By integrating Van der Laan’s expertise and contract portfolio, Unica aims to enhance recurring revenue streams and operational efficiencies. Synergies are expected through shared knowledge, systems, and specialist skills within the Unica network.

In the broader market context, this deal accelerates consolidation in the Dutch technical services sector, particularly in building maintenance and energy solutions. Competitors in Noord-Holland may face increased pressure as Unica leverages its expanded regional presence and diversified service offerings. The acquisition also positions Unica to capitalize on growing demand in sectors such as healthcare, education, and horticulture.

Looking ahead, Unica plans to integrate Van der Laan’s operations carefully to preserve customer loyalty and employee engagement. The companies will focus on aligning processes and IT systems while maintaining high service quality. Regulatory approvals are not expected to pose significant hurdles given the regional scope of the deal.

This acquisition reinforces Unica’s commitment to regional proximity and service excellence, setting the stage for continued growth in the Dutch technical services market.
