Ferranti, a leading provider of mission-critical software for the energy and utilities sector, has acquired Cogenius, a Belgian specialist in meter-to-cash software for smaller and growing energy suppliers. Announced on October 27, 2026, the transaction marks Ferranti’s first strategic add-on since partnering with private equity firm Main Capital Partners earlier this year.

Founded in 2012 and headquartered in Deerlijk, Belgium, Cogenius offers cloud-based meter-to-cash solutions that support core operational processes such as customer and contract management, metering, billing, and regulatory compliance. Its client base includes notable Belgian energy suppliers like Luminus, Vlaams Energiebedrijf (VEB), and Infrabel.

Ferranti, established in 1976 and based in Antwerp, Belgium, delivers software solutions across electricity, gas, heat, and water utilities. Its flagship MECOMS 365 platform, built on Microsoft Dynamics 365, serves utility customers in over a dozen countries, primarily focusing on larger utilities and complex distribution grid operator processes.

The acquisition brings together complementary market positions: Ferranti’s established footprint among large utilities and Cogenius’ strong presence with smaller and mid-sized energy suppliers. This combination enables the expanded group to offer a more comprehensive meter-to-cash software suite, enhancing service capabilities across the entire energy supplier spectrum.

“Cogenius represents a strong strategic fit for Ferranti, combining deep shared expertise in the utilities software market with strong positions across complementary customer segments,” said Sjoerd Aarts, Managing Partner at Main Capital Partners and Chairman of Ferranti’s Board. “We see significant potential to accelerate growth both in Belgium and internationally through this acquisition.”

Klaas Devoghel, CEO of Cogenius, added, “Joining Ferranti allows us to better serve our customers and expand our solutions into new European markets. We look forward to leveraging Ferranti’s international footprint and expertise to accelerate our growth.”

Tom Van Haute, CEO of Ferranti, emphasized the strategic rationale: “Our teams and markets complement each other well. While Ferranti has traditionally focused on large utilities, Cogenius has built a strong position among smaller and growing energy suppliers. Together, we can broaden our market reach and accelerate growth in Belgium and beyond by introducing Cogenius’ cloud-based SaaS offering alongside our MECOMS 365 platform.”

The transaction is expected to close by the end of October 2026, subject to customary closing conditions. Financial terms were not disclosed.

Industry analysts note that the deal strengthens Ferranti’s competitive position in the Belgian energy software market by adding Cogenius’ established customer base and local regulatory expertise. The combined entity aims to leverage operational synergies, including integrating meter-to-cash solutions, consolidating R&D efforts, and streamlining sales and marketing functions.

Ferranti plans to continue pursuing organic growth and selective acquisitions to build a leading international energy and utilities software group. The integration will focus on aligning product roadmaps and technology platforms while retaining key Cogenius personnel and customers.

As the energy sector increasingly demands cloud-based, end-to-end software solutions, this acquisition positions Ferranti to better compete against regional and international players. Competitors may respond with similar bolt-on acquisitions or strategic partnerships to enhance their offerings.

Looking ahead, Ferranti aims to capitalize on the combined group’s enhanced capabilities to expand into new European markets and accelerate innovation in utility software services.
