Nationale-Nederlanden (NN), a leading Dutch financial services provider, has completed the acquisition of Samenwerking Glasverzekering (SGV), a specialist insurer focused on glass insurance for the business market. SGV operates from Zutphen and Rotterdam and combines expert insurance knowledge with a digitally supported claims process and a nationwide network of affiliated glass repair companies.
The acquisition involves a full 100% stake in SGV, although financial terms were not disclosed. The deal aligns with NN’s strategy to grow sustainably in the commercial insurance sector by broadening its product portfolio and enhancing customer service capabilities.
SGV, founded in 1919 and a subsidiary of Stichting Samenwerking Beheer, primarily serves housing corporations, homeowners’ associations (VvE’s), municipalities, real estate organizations, and small to medium-sized enterprises. Its digital claims infrastructure and strong relationships with glass repair partners provide a unique value proposition in the Dutch insurance market.
Edwin Grutterink, director of NN Schade Intermediair, stated, “The acquisition is a valuable addition to our fire insurance portfolio. Both companies operate in the same market through a broad network of authorized agents, advisors, and brokers.” He emphasized that the combined offering will provide customers with a comprehensive solution for fire and glass insurance, supported by a digital claims and repair network.
Flip Juch, chairman of SGV, highlighted the benefits of joining NN: “With NN, we gain access to a larger network, additional expertise, and new opportunities to further develop our services. This creates a strong foundation for SGV’s continued growth and continuity.”
Both parties intend to preserve SGV’s specialist expertise, entrepreneurial approach, and strong client and partner relationships. The current management and employees will remain integral to the company’s future development. Existing insurance policies and partnership agreements will continue unchanged for customers and collaborators.
The integration process will focus on ensuring service continuity and a smooth transition, combining SGV’s digital claims platform with NN’s systems to improve customer experience. The acquisition also enables Stichting Samenwerking Beheer to pursue new social objectives by utilizing the transaction proceeds for initiatives with societal impact.
Nationale-Nederlanden serves over six million private and business customers in the Netherlands, offering insurance, pension, and banking products. As part of NN Group, an international financial services company active in ten countries, NN continues to strengthen its position in the Dutch commercial property insurance market through this strategic acquisition.
The deal reflects broader industry trends toward digitalization and specialization in property and casualty insurance. Competitors may face increased pressure as NN leverages combined product offerings and digital claims management to enhance customer value and operational efficiency.
Key challenges include aligning IT systems without disrupting service, maintaining SGV’s entrepreneurial culture, and managing relationships with existing distribution and repair partners. Successful integration will be critical to realizing anticipated synergies in revenue growth, cost savings, and operational improvements.
Looking ahead, NN plans to develop bundled insurance products for commercial clients, expand distribution through its agent and broker networks, and continue investing in digital claims capabilities. This acquisition positions NN to better meet evolving customer needs and strengthen its competitive stance in the Dutch insurance market.
