Larendael Acquires Plantenkwekerij Jongerius Houten B.V. Amid Bankruptcy

On February 2, 2026, Larendael, an investment and development firm led by entrepreneur Wim Beelen, announced its acquisition of Plantenkwekerij Jongerius Houten B.V. following the company's bankruptcy in late 2025.

Larendael, an investment and development company founded by entrepreneur Wim Beelen, has successfully acquired Plantenkwekerij Jongerius Houten B.V., along with its associated entities, Tuin Op Tafel and Jongerius Onroerend Goed B.V. This acquisition, finalized on February 2, 2026, comes after Jongerius was declared bankrupt by the Midden-Nederland court in December 2025.

The deal includes approximately 30 hectares of land in Houten, as well as greenhouses, machinery, production lines, and installations. Beelen expressed optimism about the acquisition, stating, “We see great potential in this 30-hectare site and look forward to revitalizing the largest organic plant nursery in the Netherlands. Step by step, we are building a sustainable future for the food industry.”

Following the bankruptcy, the curator, Mr. Marco Guit from AMS Advocaten, initiated a sales process for the assets and real estate, during which multiple parties submitted bids. Ultimately, Guit approved Larendael’s offer, allowing Jongerius to continue operations under new ownership. Guit noted, “The presented plan instills confidence in a careful and future-proof continuation of activities.”

As part of the acquisition, Larendael plans to engage with existing staff to explore how to collaboratively build a sustainable and progressive company. In the coming months, the firm will assess Jongerius’s production capacity, cultivation processes, and organizational structure to determine which activities can be resumed in the short term.

Larendael aims to kickstart the cultivation of organic herbs and vegetable plants for the Tuin Op Tafel concept, which aligns with its vision for sustainable, small-scale food production. This initiative will enable consumers to grow fresh herbs and vegetables even in limited spaces.

Additionally, Larendael will reach out to existing customers and suppliers to evaluate potential collaborations moving forward, carefully considering feasibility, continuity, and legal conditions following the bankruptcy.

Wim Beelen, who leads Larendael with a seasoned team, has a track record of driving various enterprises and sustainable real estate developments. Meanwhile, the curator continues to manage the bankruptcy proceedings for the parts of Jongerius not included in the restart, including the sale of real estate in Harmelen. Creditors are encouraged to submit their claims to the estate, with the curator optimistic about fulfilling all obligations, although the total debt position remains unclear.
