Vitrex Medical Group Acquires Herniamesh Surgical Mesh Maker

Vitrex Medical Group acquires Herniamesh, expanding surgical portfolio and global reach. Learn about the strategic growth and market impact.

Vitrex Medical Group (VMG), a prominent medical device company and part of the WOOD & Company portfolio, announces the acquisition of Herniamesh on April 14, 2026. Herniamesh is a specialist manufacturer of surgical meshes based in northern Italy. This strategic move marks a significant milestone in the development of VMG’s surgical division, CHIRMAX, and aligns with the group’s long-term growth strategy combining organic expansion with targeted partnerships.

The terms of the transaction have not been publicly disclosed. The acquisition involves VMG, supported by new investors from the WOOD & Company Surgical Fund, taking ownership of Herniamesh’s business. Lorena Trabucco, co-founder and current co-owner of Herniamesh, will retain a stake and continue to contribute to the company’s growth within VMG.

Herniamesh was founded by renowned surgeon Dr. Ermanno Trabucco, the originator of the Trabucco surgical technique. The company’s products are developed with direct clinical input, focusing on meeting the needs of both physicians and patients. Herniamesh has an established presence in Italy and access to key international markets including the United States, China, South Korea, and Latin America.

VMG is recognized for its expertise in contract development and manufacturing (CDMO) of medical devices, particularly cannulas and drug delivery systems, as well as its leadership in blood collection and laboratory sample processing products. The acquisition of Herniamesh’s high-quality, EU-manufactured surgical mesh portfolio expands VMG’s offerings from surgical sutures to comprehensive surgical solutions.

“Integrating Herniamesh’s portfolio into our product range enhances both the scope and capacity of our surgical division,” said Marcin Sieczek, CEO of Vitrex Medical Group. “This acquisition strengthens our position as a global player in surgical products and accelerates our ability to deliver innovative solutions to the market.”

Michal Staroň, partner at WOOD & Company, emphasized the strategic fit: “Vitrex Medical Group demonstrates stable organic growth and confidence in its strategy. The acquisition of Herniamesh is a natural step in fulfilling this vision. We value Lorena Trabucco’s ongoing involvement, which will be instrumental in driving Herniamesh’s development within VMG.”

The deal provides VMG with immediate access to new geographic markets, leveraging Herniamesh’s footprint in the USA, China, Korea, and Latin America, while also expanding VMG’s distribution in Central and Eastern Europe and Nordic countries. Synergies include cross-selling opportunities, consolidated manufacturing and supply chain operations, and shared research and development resources.

Industry experts note that this acquisition positions VMG to better compete in the surgical mesh segment, where innovation and clinical validation are critical. The combined expertise is expected to accelerate the commercialization of new surgical solutions and enhance VMG’s innovation pipeline.

Looking ahead, VMG plans to integrate Herniamesh’s clinical know-how and proprietary surgical techniques into its product development processes. The company will focus on maintaining Herniamesh’s brand reputation and clinical credibility while streamlining operations across regions.

Regulatory approvals and integration efforts are underway, with VMG aiming to capitalize on the expanded portfolio and geographic reach to drive growth in the coming years.

This acquisition underscores VMG’s commitment to strengthening its surgical division and delivering comprehensive healthcare solutions globally.
