KPN has completed the acquisition of Xelion, a Delft-based technology firm that develops software for business communication. Founded in 1988, Xelion offers a unified platform that enables companies to manage calling, messaging, video conferencing, and customer contact through a single application. This move aligns with KPN’s strategy to support small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) with smarter, simplified communication tools.
While the financial terms of the deal were not disclosed, KPN has acquired 100% ownership of Xelion. The company will continue to operate as an independent unit within KPN’s business division focused on the SME market. Xelion’s existing customers and partner network across multiple European countries will remain intact, ensuring continuity of service and support.
Xelion’s platform integrates multiple communication channels, including WhatsApp, Microsoft Teams, and CRM systems, allowing employees to seamlessly switch between calls, chats, and video meetings. This capability addresses the growing complexity of business communication, where customers expect rapid, multi-channel engagement.
According to KPN, the acquisition complements its recent launch of AI-enabled communication services for entrepreneurs, creating opportunities to further integrate AI with Xelion’s platform. This integration aims to enhance customer contact and operational efficiency for SMEs.
“We deliberately chose KPN as the right partner,” said a Xelion spokesperson. “Being part of KPN ensures continuity for our customers, employees, and partners, while providing room to maintain our innovative culture and pursue growth.”
KPN emphasized that Xelion’s user-friendly platform and innovation-driven culture are key assets. The acquisition enables KPN to expand its reach and offer a comprehensive communication solution that supports collaboration and customer engagement wherever businesses operate.
In the broader market context, the deal strengthens KPN’s position in the Dutch SME communication sector and accelerates industry consolidation. Competitors are expected to respond with similar investments in unified communications and AI technologies to meet evolving SME demands.
Operational synergies include cross-selling opportunities, shared infrastructure, and streamlined customer support. However, integration challenges such as aligning technology roadmaps and preserving Xelion’s entrepreneurial spirit remain priorities for management.
Looking ahead, KPN plans to leverage its distribution network and Xelion’s platform to drive growth and innovation in digital communication for SMEs. The acquisition marks a strategic step in KPN’s ambition to simplify and enhance business communication through technology.
