Riverdam-backed Smizer Acquires Wanbound to Strengthen IT Services in Groene Hart

Smizer, backed by Riverdam, acquires Wanbound to strengthen IT managed services in Groene Hart, enhancing SMB cybersecurity and connectivity solutions.

Smizer, a buy-and-build platform for IT Managed Service Providers (MSPs) supported by investment firm Riverdam, has acquired Wanbound, a regional MSP based in Woerden, Netherlands. The acquisition merges Wanbound with Accensys, another MSP within Smizer’s portfolio, to strengthen their combined presence and service capabilities in the Groene Hart region.

While financial terms of the deal were not disclosed, the transaction is part of Smizer’s broader growth strategy to consolidate regional MSPs and enhance offerings for the small and medium-sized business (SMB) segment. The combined entity will focus on delivering modern workplace automation, connectivity, cybersecurity, and cloud solutions tailored to the evolving needs of local customers.

Accensys, headquartered in Woerden, is an experienced MSP providing workplace automation, connectivity, security, and hybrid cloud services. The company holds ISO 27001 certification, underscoring its commitment to information security. Wanbound complements Accensys by offering reliable IT solutions with a focus on people, processes, and business continuity, also operating from Woerden.

According to Axel Baas, General Manager of the combined company, “By joining forces, we increase our local presence, knowledge, and capacity. Both organizations share a vision centered on personal service, quality, and security, enabling us to deliver greater value to customers in the Groene Hart and grow as the region’s leading IT service provider.” Michel Verheijen, Commercial Director, echoed this sentiment, emphasizing the shared culture and customer-centric approach of both firms.

Wayne Wilson has been appointed Lead Integration & Optimization to oversee the smooth merger of the two organizations. He stated, “Our customers will continue to enjoy familiar, local contact while gaining access to additional specialists, tools, and scale advantages. This integration builds a strong foundation for future growth benefiting clients and employees alike.”

The acquisition strengthens Smizer’s footprint across the Netherlands, where its MSP companies operate from nineteen locations, including Den Bosch, Eindhoven, Arnhem, and Woerden. Smizer’s portfolio delivers cloud-based IT solutions that enable SMBs and non-profits to work securely and efficiently from anywhere.

Riverdam co-founder Derk van Wingerden highlighted the strategic importance of the IT sector, noting, “The Dutch IT market is a key national hub, and we expect accelerated growth driven by ongoing digital transformation.” Over the past four years, Riverdam has supported Smizer’s expansion through 31 acquisitions of regional MSPs, reinforcing its position as a leading platform in the sector.

The integration of Wanbound and Accensys is expected to generate synergies through cross-selling modern workplace and cybersecurity solutions, shared operational functions, and enhanced technical expertise. This consolidation aims to improve service quality, operational efficiency, and market share in the Groene Hart SMB market.

Challenges remain in aligning company cultures, integrating IT systems, and retaining key talent during the transition. However, the combined leadership team is focused on maintaining a customer-centric approach and leveraging the strengths of both organizations.

Looking ahead, Smizer plans to continue expanding its regional MSP platform, driving innovation and delivering flexible, secure IT services that meet the evolving demands of SMBs. The acquisition of Wanbound marks a significant step in this strategy, reinforcing Smizer’s commitment to being the preferred IT partner in the Groene Hart and beyond.
