Varro acquires Krifon AS, strengthening its position in Nordic home and garden distribution. Learn about the strategic deal and market impact.

Varro, a growth-focused investment firm based in Sandefjord, Norway, has completed the acquisition of Krifon AS, a prominent Nordic B2B distributor specializing in home and garden products. The transaction marks a strategic expansion for Varro, reinforcing its role as a key category partner to leading DIY chains, garden centers, and furniture retailers in Norway and the wider Nordic region.

Krifon AS supplies a broad range of outdoor furniture, garden structures such as pergolas and planters, and decorative items to major retailers. With over 60 years of market experience, Krifon has developed long-standing relationships with top Nordic retailers by combining a carefully curated product assortment with efficient logistics and reliable supply chains. The company operates as a subsidiary of Outdoor Life Group Holding B.V., which is backed by the Dutch private equity firm Parcom.

Founded in 2019, Varro focuses on providing growth capital to small- and mid-sized businesses primarily in the Vestfold and Telemark regions of Norway. The firm pursues an active, long-term ownership approach, partnering closely with portfolio companies to drive value creation through strategic support, operational improvements, and targeted acquisitions.

Parcom, headquartered in Amsterdam, is known for its active ownership in mid-sized companies across Northwest Europe, emphasizing sustainable growth and operational excellence. Oaklins’ teams in Norway and the Netherlands advised the seller throughout the transaction process.

Although the financial terms of the deal were not disclosed, the acquisition is expected to generate significant synergies. These include cross-selling opportunities to existing retail partners, expansion of Krifon’s product assortment, and consolidation of logistics and supply chain operations to achieve economies of scale. Operational improvements are anticipated through integrated logistics and enhanced category management leveraging Krifon’s expertise.

Strategically, the acquisition strengthens Varro’s position in the Nordic home and garden distribution market by adding a well-established player with deep retailer relationships and a differentiated product portfolio. The deal also supports Varro’s ambition to drive growth through targeted acquisitions and market expansion, while optimizing operations via active ownership.

The Nordic home and garden sector is experiencing increased consolidation as companies seek to improve supply chain efficiency and broaden product offerings to meet evolving consumer demands. Competitors may respond by pursuing similar partnerships or acquisitions to maintain market share and enhance service quality.

Integration challenges include aligning operational processes across multiple ownership structures, maintaining supplier and retailer relationships during the transition, and integrating logistics and IT systems without disrupting service levels. Varro’s experience in active management and strategic support is expected to mitigate these risks.

Looking ahead, Varro plans to leverage Krifon’s local market knowledge and category expertise to expand its product range and deepen retailer partnerships. The acquisition positions Varro to capitalize on growth opportunities in the Nordic retail supply chain and home and garden sectors.
