The Tofoo Co Ltd, a leading UK organic tofu brand, has announced its agreement to acquire Topas GmbH, a German manufacturer of organic plant-based products, including the renowned Wheaty brand. This acquisition marks a pivotal move in The Tofoo Co's strategy to expand its footprint in Europe.

The Tofoo Co Ltd, the UK’s leading organic tofu brand backed by Comitis Capital, has entered into an agreement to acquire Topas GmbH, a German-based producer of organic plant-based products. The transaction, announced on February 2, 2026, represents a key milestone in The Tofoo Co’s European growth strategy and strengthens its position in the fast-growing plant-based protein market.

Founded over 30 years ago by Sanni Ikola-Gaiser and Klaus Gaiser, Topas is best known for its Wheaty brand, a high-quality range of organic seitan products including sausages and deli slices. Operating from its base near Stuttgart, the company has built a strong and loyal customer following across Germany and has an established presence in France, Austria, Switzerland, and the Netherlands.

Topas employs more than 100 people and reported turnover of approximately €14 million in its most recent financial year. Its strong manufacturing capabilities and expertise in seitan production make it a natural strategic fit alongside The Tofoo Co’s existing tofu and tempeh portfolio.

The acquisition supports The Tofoo Co’s ambition to expand beyond the UK while remaining focused on organic quality, great taste, and accessible plant-based nutrition. Wheaty shares The Tofoo Co’s values around organic production and sustainability and provides a strong local foundation as The Tofoo Co prepares for its planned launch into the German market in 2026.

Through the transaction, The Tofoo Co aims to accelerate the growth of the Wheaty brand in its home market, expand international distribution, and unlock new opportunities for Wheaty products in the UK. The combination also enables operational synergies by leveraging Topas’s larger seitan manufacturing capabilities.

Commenting on the acquisition, Klaus Gaiser, Co-Founder of Topas, said that finding the right long-term partner was critical and highlighted the strong alignment in values, quality standards, and vision for sustainable growth. David Knibbs, CEO of The Tofoo Co, added that Wheaty’s heritage and reputation provide a compelling platform for further European expansion.

As part of the transaction, Sebastian von Eltz will assume the role of Managing Director of Topas. Klaus Gaiser will focus on product development, while Miikka Gaiser will continue to lead production and organisational matters. Topas will continue to operate from its Stuttgart base, maintaining its commitment to organic production and quality.
