Normec has announced the acquisition of ECM (Ente Certificazione Macchine), a prominent Italian certification and testing organization, on January 28, 2026. This strategic move aims to bolster Normec's capabilities in regulatory compliance and product certification.
Normec, a leading provider of Testing, Inspection, Certification, and Compliance services backed by Astorg, has acquired ECM (Ente Certificazione Macchine), a well-established Italian certification and testing organization. Founded in 2003, ECM has over 20 years of experience in regulatory compliance, product certification, and safety assessment. The acquisition was announced on January 28, 2026, and is expected to enhance Normec’s offerings in the healthcare and certification sectors.
ECM, recognized as a Notified Body (No. 1282) and an accredited testing laboratory, provides a range of services including certification, testing, inspection, and training across various sectors such as medical devices, machinery, and electrical safety. The organization is authorized to perform conformity assessments under key European regulations, including the Machinery Directive and the Medical Device Regulation (EU) 2017/745 (MDR).
Luca Bedonni, who has led ECM since its inception, will continue as Managing Director, ensuring a seamless transition for customers, partners, and employees. Bedonni expressed confidence in the acquisition, stating, “The acquisition of ECM is an important step in the further development of Normec’s Healthcare and Certification activities. ECM brings strong technical expertise, a solid reputation, and in-depth knowledge of regulatory frameworks in highly regulated markets. We are proud to welcome ECM to Normec.”
This acquisition not only strengthens Normec’s position in the Italian certification market but also enhances its competitive edge across Europe. The partnership is expected to facilitate the expansion of ECM’s services into Normec’s international markets, including potential collaborations with local partners in China.
Normec’s focus on expertise, quality, and entrepreneurship aligns with ECM’s commitment to technical excellence and impartiality. The integration of ECM’s testing capabilities with Normec’s existing services is anticipated to create operational synergies, including streamlined certification processes and shared administrative costs.
As the integration progresses, Normec aims to develop new certification programs and improve market penetration in regulated sectors. However, challenges such as cultural integration and maintaining ECM’s brand reputation during the transition will need to be addressed.
Overall, this acquisition positions Normec for future growth and innovation in the certification landscape, with a focus on enhancing safety and performance for clients across various industries.
