Nordian Partners with Deciso to Scale European Network Security Solutions

Nordian partners with Deciso to expand European open-source network security solutions. Learn how this strategic deal supports growth and digital sovereignty.

Nordian, a Netherlands-based investment company, has formed a strategic partnership with Deciso B.V., a developer and manufacturer of network security solutions headquartered in Middelharnis. The deal centers on scaling Deciso’s operations to address increasing market demand for its open-source-based firewall products, which integrate proprietary hardware with the OPNsense software platform. The deal was announced on June 30, 2026.

Deciso is one of the few European companies producing network security solutions with an open-source core, combining self-developed physical firewalls and software. This unique positioning aligns with growing concerns around digital sovereignty and transparency, driving demand for such solutions across enterprise, public sector, and managed service provider segments worldwide.

While financial terms of the partnership were not disclosed, the founders of Deciso retain a substantial ownership stake and remain actively involved in daily management and strategic direction. Jos Schellevis, co-founder of Deciso, emphasized the shared values underpinning the collaboration: “When we started OPNsense, we believed network security should be open, transparent, and affordable. With Nordian, we found a partner who understands this and supports scaling without compromising our core principles.”

Nordian, known for investing in and supporting sustainable growth in mid-sized companies, will leverage its capital and management expertise to help Deciso expand production capacity, optimize operations, and broaden its market reach. Linda Boender, Director at Nordian, highlighted the growth potential: “We admire what Deciso’s founders have built—a unique proposition with strong appeal across diverse customer segments. We see significant opportunities to grow further with Deciso’s transparent, European security solutions.”

The partnership comes amid a broader industry trend emphasizing digital sovereignty and open-source security frameworks. Deciso’s integration of proprietary hardware with OPNsense software offers a transparent alternative to traditional proprietary firewall vendors, strengthening its competitive position in Europe and beyond.

Operational synergies expected from the partnership include scaling production and distribution capabilities, optimizing supply chains, and enhancing product development. Nordian’s involvement aims to accelerate Deciso’s growth trajectory while maintaining its open-source community engagement and entrepreneurial culture.

Challenges remain in balancing rapid scaling with preserving product quality and innovation, as well as aligning investor-driven growth objectives with the founders’ vision. However, the collaboration positions Deciso to capitalize on rising demand for open, transparent cybersecurity solutions amid evolving regulatory and market dynamics.

Looking ahead, the partnership will focus on expanding Deciso’s customer base across enterprise, public sector, and managed service providers, while exploring adjacent cybersecurity product lines. The founders’ continued involvement ensures strategic continuity as the company scales.

This collaboration marks a significant step in strengthening European-developed network security offerings, reinforcing digital sovereignty and transparency in an increasingly complex cybersecurity landscape.
