Kuiphuis, a prominent Dutch company specializing in crane rental, lifting technology, and logistics solutions, has acquired Van Marwijk Crane Rental, a family-owned business based in Zoeterwoude, effective April 1, 2026. This acquisition marks a significant step in Kuiphuis’s growth strategy, aimed at expanding its footprint and service offerings in the western Netherlands.
Van Marwijk Crane Rental, founded in 1965, has built a strong reputation in South Holland for its craftsmanship, reliability, and personalized service. Originally starting as a taxi company in 1941 before transitioning into garage and recovery operations, Van Marwijk expanded into crane rental and lifting services in the mid-1960s. The company supports projects across construction, industry, maritime, defense sectors, and even the Royal House.
Under the terms of the deal, Kuiphuis acquires 100% ownership of Van Marwijk Crane Rental. While the financial details remain undisclosed, the acquisition includes the integration of Van Marwijk’s operations into Kuiphuis’s existing framework. However, Van Marwijk’s brand and team will remain intact initially to ensure continuity for customers and employees.
Kuiphuis, founded in 1908, has invested heavily in innovation, sustainability, and nationwide coverage in recent years. The acquisition aligns with its strategic goal to strengthen its position in the western Netherlands by adding a trusted local player with an established customer base. Kuiphuis now operates two locations in the region, enhancing its ability to meet growing demand for flexible and sustainable crane solutions in construction, industry, and infrastructure.
“We are proud to bring the experience and expertise of Van Marwijk Crane Rental to our organization,” says the owner of Kuiphuis. “Our companies share core values such as safety, quality, and a down-to-earth approach. Van Marwijk’s customers can now benefit from a broader range of services and expanded nationwide coverage.” The owner of Van Marwijk adds, “After more than sixty years, we felt it was time to secure the future of our company. Kuiphuis is a reliable partner who shares our passion and respects our people and customers. We look to the future with confidence.”
The acquisition offers several synergies, including cross-selling expanded crane and lifting services to Van Marwijk’s existing customers, access to new clients in the western Netherlands, and a broader service portfolio enabling bundled offerings to construction and infrastructure clients. Operational efficiencies are expected through shared administrative functions, optimized fleet utilization, and consolidated procurement.
Market analysts note that this deal strengthens Kuiphuis’s competitive position in the western Netherlands crane rental market, potentially increasing pressure on regional competitors. The integration will leverage Kuiphuis’s investments in innovation and sustainability to enhance Van Marwijk’s operations, supporting the growing demand for environmentally friendly and efficient vertical transport solutions.
Despite a shared tragic history between the families dating back to a 1982 plane crash that affected both communities, the acquisition symbolizes a forward-looking partnership. Both companies emphasize the importance of maintaining Van Marwijk’s brand identity and customer loyalty during the integration process, while aligning corporate cultures and operational processes.
Looking ahead, Kuiphuis plans to fully integrate Van Marwijk’s operations while preserving service quality and employee engagement. Regulatory approvals are not expected to pose significant hurdles. This acquisition positions Kuiphuis to capitalize on market growth and deliver enhanced value to customers across multiple sectors.
