Vendis launches €100M Transition fund with first investment in VästerbottensSåpa, a Swedish sustainable cleaning detergent brand expanding in Europe.

Vendis, a specialist Private Equity firm in the European consumer sector, has made its inaugural investment from the newly launched Vendis Transition fund by acquiring a stake in VästerbottensSåpa, a fast-growing Swedish cleaning detergent company. The announcement was made on 15 April 2025, highlighting Vendis’ commitment to sustainable consumer brands.

VästerbottensSåpa, founded in 2014 by entrepreneurs Sara and Magnus Idenfors, is headquartered in Vilhelmina, Sweden. The company produces premium, eco-friendly cleaning products for outdoor, home, and laundry care. Its detergents are made using waste cooking oil sourced from local food service and food industry businesses, combined with natural ingredients and packaged in recycled PET bottles. This approach significantly reduces the carbon footprint and eliminates toxic chemicals common in traditional cleaning products.

Since 2023, VästerbottensSåpa has leveraged the e-commerce and marketing expertise of Fedja Porobic and his agency, Porobic Group, to establish a strong direct-to-consumer (D2C) presence. This strategy has driven triple-digit revenue growth, supported by authentic marketing and aesthetically appealing packaging.

Vendis plans to collaborate closely with the founders and Porobic to extend VästerbottensSåpa’s success beyond D2C channels into traditional retail, where approximately 95% of cleaning detergent sales still occur. The firm also aims to support geographic expansion across the Nordic region and broader European markets.

The investment marks the first deployment of the Vendis Transition fund, a €150 million small-cap consumer fund with a sustainability focus, which recently held a first close at over €100 million in commitments. Vendis, founded in 2009, specializes in consumer sector investments across the Netherlands, Belgium, Germany, France, and Nordic countries, partnering with entrepreneurs to drive growth and value creation.

Industry trends show increasing consumer demand for sustainable and premium cleaning products, with a growing emphasis on environmental impact and product authenticity. VästerbottensSåpa’s use of circular economy principles and natural ingredients positions it well within this expanding market segment.

Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. However, Vendis aims to leverage its expertise to optimize VästerbottensSåpa’s supply chain, enhance marketing capabilities, and facilitate multi-channel expansion. The firm anticipates potential economies of scale and operational efficiencies through integration with its portfolio companies.

Looking ahead, Vendis and VästerbottensSåpa plan to focus on scaling retail distribution, maintaining brand authenticity, and expanding into new European markets. Regulatory approvals are not expected to pose significant hurdles given the nature of the investment.
