Ipsum acquires Energypeople, enhancing UK power infrastructure consultancy and delivery capabilities. Learn about the strategic expansion and market impact.
IK Partners-Backed Ipsum Group, a UK engineering services and infrastructure delivery group, has acquired Energypeople, a specialist technical consultancy and engineering design firm focused on the power sector. The acquisition expands Ipsum’s capabilities across the power infrastructure lifecycle, from strategic planning and network design to delivery, commissioning, and asset optimisation. The deal was announced on July 17, 2026.
Energypeople operates offices in both northern and southern UK, bringing decades of experience supporting electricity networks, utilities, developers, regulators, and infrastructure owners. The company provides consultancy and engineering design services across transmission and distribution networks, including network planning, technical advisory, regulatory support, and asset management.
By integrating Energypeople’s expertise, Ipsum enhances its ability to deliver technically complex projects and offer a broader, end-to-end service suite. This complements Ipsum’s existing infrastructure delivery services, enabling the combined group to support customers throughout the entire power infrastructure lifecycle.
“The acquisition of Energypeople is another important step in strengthening Ipsum’s Power division and broadening the expertise we can offer our customers,” said an Ipsum spokesperson. “Their highly respected consultancy and engineering design capabilities complement our infrastructure delivery services, enabling us to support customers from the earliest stages of network planning through to long-term asset management.”
“As investment in the UK’s electricity networks accelerates, bringing Energypeople into the Group enhances our ability to deliver integrated, technically led solutions that address network resilience, decarbonisation, and the energy transition,” the spokesperson added.
Energypeople’s leadership expressed enthusiasm about joining Ipsum. “Becoming part of Ipsum gives us access to a broader range of capabilities, clients, and markets,” said an Energypeople representative. “This partnership strengthens our ability to support the UK’s energy transition and critical infrastructure programmes while maintaining the high standards of service our clients expect.”
Ipsum operates across Water, Power, Infrastructure, and Control & Automation sectors, delivering engineering services that improve asset performance and operational resilience. The acquisition of Energypeople follows recent deals including twoH and ExcelCS, further expanding Ipsum’s specialist capabilities in water and infrastructure.
The deal value was not disclosed. The acquisition is expected to create synergies by combining consultancy and delivery services, optimizing resource allocation, and expanding geographic coverage across the UK. Integration challenges include aligning corporate cultures and retaining key technical talent to maintain service continuity.
Industry analysts note that this acquisition strengthens Ipsum’s position in the UK power infrastructure market by broadening its technical expertise and service scope. Competitors may respond with similar acquisitions or partnerships to match Ipsum’s integrated offering amid accelerating industry consolidation.
Looking ahead, Ipsum plans to leverage the combined capabilities to capture larger, more complex projects and support the evolving energy landscape, particularly the transition to low-carbon power networks.
