HarbourVest Partners Closes Thirteenth U.S. Flagship Fund at $2.4 Billion

HarbourVest Partners, a global private markets asset manager with over 43 years of experience and $150 billion in assets under management, has announced the final close of its thirteenth U.S. flagship primary fund, HarbourVest Fund XIII, with approximately $2.4 billion in total capital commitments. The close, announced on April 21, 2026, was supported by a global group of institutional and private wealth investors.

Fund XIII invests across buyouts and venture capital through a strategy centred on primary partnership commitments, complemented by secondaries and direct co-investments. The inclusion of secondaries and co-investments is designed to enhance early liquidity and support a more balanced return profile over the life of the fund — a hallmark of HarbourVest’s multi-manager approach to portfolio construction.

Primary fund investing has been at the core of HarbourVest’s platform since the firm raised its first fund in 1982. Fund XIII builds on more than four decades of institutional knowledge, drawing on the firm’s global platform, extensive manager relationships, and disciplined investment process to construct diversified portfolios across vintages, sectors, stages of company development, and managers. Manager selection remains central to the firm’s philosophy, underpinning its conviction that identifying and accessing the right managers is the primary driver of long-term outperformance in private markets.

The venture component of Fund XIII closed above target, reflecting strong investor demand for diversified access to leading venture managers. HarbourVest sees compelling entry points across the venture landscape — from new company creation to growth-stage opportunities — with innovation accelerating across artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, biotechnology, and deep tech. Eric Simas, Managing Director, highlighted that Fund XIII reflects more than four decades of developed relationships, scale, and discipline in multi-manager fund investing. Amanda Outerbridge, Managing Director, emphasised that successful venture investing requires early access to top managers and the ability to identify the next generation of leaders before they become consensus picks.
