Ambienta’s NDA acquires JS Drilling Solutions, enhancing trenchless pipe installation and sustainable water infrastructure in Sweden and the Nordic region.
Ambienta SGR S.p.A., a leading European asset manager focused exclusively on environmental sustainability, announces that its platform company, No Dig Alliance (NDA), has acquired JS Drilling Solutions, a Swedish specialist in trenchless underground pipe installation. The acquisition, announced on May 26, 2026, marks a strategic expansion of NDA’s footprint in Sweden and strengthens its capabilities in delivering low-emission, low-impact water infrastructure solutions.
JS Drilling Solutions, based in Sundsvall, Sweden, specializes in horizontal directional drilling, a trenchless technology used for underground pipe installation. The company works closely with public authorities and infrastructure contractors across Sweden, contributing to the development and maintenance of critical underground utility networks. This expertise complements NDA’s existing services and will be integrated into NDA’s Riggtech business unit.
NDA, acquired by Ambienta in 2025, is a leading Nordic platform in underground water infrastructure services with nearly 300 employees. The company pursues a disciplined buy-and-build strategy to consolidate a historically fragmented market, expanding its technological capabilities while delivering measurable environmental benefits. These include reductions in water leakage, energy loss, and disruptive excavation practices.
The addition of JS Drilling Solutions enhances NDA’s service offering by incorporating advanced trenchless technologies, supporting the transition toward more sustainable water infrastructure solutions. Across Europe, aging water infrastructure faces increasing pressure from climate change, with leakage rates in Nordic utilities ranging from 18% to 30% of total water supply. This acquisition positions NDA to address these inefficiencies through innovative, low-impact methods.
Ambienta’s investment team highlights the strategic value of the acquisition. A spokesperson stated, “JS Drilling Solutions is a highly complementary addition to NDA and further strengthens our position in the Nordic market. Its strong technical expertise and established presence in Sweden enhance our trenchless technology capabilities and support our sustainability-focused strategy.” NDA’s management added, “The acquisition brings deep technical expertise and regional market knowledge, reinforcing our customer relationships and enabling us to accelerate delivery of sustainable water infrastructure solutions across the Nordic region.” JS Drilling Solutions’ leadership expressed enthusiasm about joining NDA, citing alignment in strategic vision and growth ambitions.
Ambienta, founded in 2007, manages over €4 billion in assets across Milan, London, Paris, Munich, and Stockholm. The firm invests in companies addressing environmental megatrends, focusing on resource efficiency and pollution control. Ambienta was an early signatory of the UN Principles for Responsible Investment and holds B-Corp status, reflecting its commitment to sustainable investing.
The acquisition is expected to generate synergies through cross-selling trenchless installation services to NDA’s existing clients, expanding offerings to public authorities, and leveraging NDA’s platform for new contracts. Operational efficiencies will arise from shared overheads, consolidated procurement, and integrated project execution capabilities. However, integration challenges include aligning organizational cultures, IT systems, and retaining key technical talent.
Market analysts note that this deal accelerates consolidation in the Nordic water infrastructure sector, increasing competitive pressure on peers to innovate or pursue similar acquisitions. NDA’s expanded technological portfolio and geographic reach position it as a leading provider of sustainable underground water infrastructure services in the region.
Looking ahead, NDA plans to integrate JS Drilling Solutions fully into its operations, focusing on seamless service delivery and maintaining strong client relationships. Regulatory approvals are not expected to pose significant hurdles. This acquisition reinforces Ambienta’s commitment to building environmental champions that deliver both financial returns and positive ecological impact.
