TA Associates, a leading global private equity firm, announces a majority investment in MedEnvision, a Belgian medtech company specializing in solutions that enhance efficiency in orthopaedic surgical procedures. The deal, announced on October 22, 2026, involves TA partnering with MedEnvision’s founders, management team, and existing financial partner Smile Invest to support the company’s long-term growth strategy.
While financial terms remain undisclosed, the transaction is expected to close by the end of 2026, subject to customary closing conditions. TA’s investment will enable MedEnvision to broaden its product portfolio, expand its commercial organization, and accelerate international market penetration, with a particular focus on the fast-growing US orthopaedic market.
Founded in 2012 and headquartered in Westerlo, Belgium, MedEnvision develops innovative solutions designed to improve operating theatre efficiency for orthopaedic surgical teams. Its flagship Efficient Surgery (ESY) platform, which includes the Gripper™ and EsySuit™ products, standardizes key steps in hip, knee, and shoulder replacement surgeries. This approach helps hospitals reduce procedural costs, optimize staff utilization, enhance ergonomics, and support infection control. MedEnvision’s solutions are currently used in more than 26 countries, distributed through a combination of direct sales, distributors, and agents.
TA Associates brings extensive healthcare investment experience and a global network, with offices in Boston, Menlo Park, Austin, London, Mumbai, and Hong Kong. Since 1968, TA has invested in over 560 companies across sectors including technology, financial services, and healthcare, managing $65 billion in capital. Smile Invest, a European evergreen investment firm with over €500 million in assets under management, has been a financial partner to MedEnvision since 2024, supporting its international growth and organizational development.
Dries Goyens, CEO of MedEnvision, highlights the strategic value of the partnership: “TA’s decision to partner with MedEnvision is a strong recognition of what our team has built: solutions that make orthopaedic surgery more efficient, safer and more sustainable for surgeons, OR staff and hospitals. With TA’s healthcare expertise and international reach, we can bring our solutions to many more operating theatres worldwide.”
Birker Bahnsen, Managing Director and Head of TA’s European healthcare investment team, adds, “MedEnvision addresses a real need for hospitals, performing more procedures with the same teams, while improving ergonomics and infection control. We are impressed by the company’s clinically driven innovation and strong international traction to date. We look forward to working with Dries, the founders and Smile Invest to help MedEnvision scale its platform and expand into new markets.”
Smile Invest’s Managing Partner Bart Cauberghe and Partner Nicolas Costers note, “It has been a privilege to support MedEnvision’s founders and management team since 2024. We are delighted to welcome TA, a highly experienced healthcare investor, as a like-minded partner. Together with the management team and TA, we look forward to reaching new milestones.”
The partnership aims to leverage TA’s healthcare sector expertise and global reach to accelerate MedEnvision’s expansion, particularly in the United States, while continuing to develop and enhance its Efficient Surgery solution. The collaboration is expected to generate operational synergies through improved go-to-market capabilities, streamlined supply chains, and shared R&D resources.
MedEnvision faces challenges typical of scaling medtech companies, including aligning strategic priorities among multiple stakeholders, managing international regulatory environments, and maintaining innovation momentum. However, the deal strengthens MedEnvision’s competitive position in the orthopaedic surgical efficiency market, potentially prompting increased innovation and strategic responses from competitors.
Legal advisors for the transaction included Trent Law for MedEnvision, Goodwin Law and Stibbe for TA Associates, with PwC providing additional advisory support. The transaction is anticipated to close in the fourth quarter of 2026.
Looking ahead, MedEnvision plans to deepen its presence in existing markets, enter new geographies, and continue developing solutions that improve surgical efficiency and patient outcomes worldwide.
