Nvidia, the leading US semiconductor company, has confirmed its acquisition of Illumex, an Israeli startup specializing in enterprise data management, for $75 million. Founded by CEO Inna Tokarev Sela, Illumex focuses on creating joint languages between different databanks, incorporating built-in governance and artificial intelligence (AI) technology.

Illumex has raised a total of $13 million to date, primarily from Israeli investors such as Cardumen Capital, JIBE, and ICON. According to PitchBook, the startup achieved a post-money valuation of $32 million in June 2024, indicating that its value has more than doubled since then.

This acquisition is part of Nvidia’s strategy to enhance its offerings in AI and enterprise data management. The integration of Illumex’s technology will enable Nvidia to provide a software layer that assists large companies in managing their enterprise data across various repositories, facilitating the training and operation of AI agents—programs capable of performing tasks independently.

A Nvidia spokesperson stated, “We are pleased to add the Illumex team to Nvidia. Their deep expertise in building ontologies will help us accelerate the development of libraries and models that will enable the adoption of Agentic AI in organizations.” This acquisition follows Nvidia’s earlier purchase of Deci, which focused on compressing large language models to improve their implementation.

The deal is expected to create significant synergies for Nvidia, including cross-selling Illumex’s data management solutions to its existing customer base and leveraging Illumex’s technology to enhance its AI offerings. Additionally, the integration is anticipated to streamline operations and improve data governance processes.

In the broader market context, Nvidia’s acquisition strengthens its position in the competitive AI and enterprise data management sectors, potentially increasing its market share. The deal also opens avenues for geographic expansion into Israel and broader European markets.

Looking ahead, Nvidia plans to integrate Illumex’s technology into its existing platforms, although challenges such as cultural integration and aligning product development timelines may arise. The acquisition is subject to regulatory approvals, but it is expected to accelerate the adoption of Agentic AI across organizations.

Overall, this acquisition positions Nvidia to create new revenue streams from enterprise data solutions while enhancing its AI capabilities through improved data management.
