Waterland Private Equity has announced the successful closing of its 10th institutional flagship fund, Waterland Private Equity Fund X (“WPEF X”), at €4 billion, closing at its hard cap in less than four months from launch and materially oversubscribed. The closing was announced on April 24, 2026, and underscores the strength of Waterland’s investor relationships and the enduring conviction in its European buy-and-build strategy.

10th Generation of a Proven Strategy

WPEF X is the 10th generation of Waterland’s flagship fund strategy, continuing the firm’s focus on investing in European companies operating in fragmented, growing markets, and supporting both organic and acquisitive growth. The strategy has defined Waterland’s investment philosophy over the past 25+ years, with consecutive fund generations scaling the platform while preserving the disciplined buy-and-build methodology that has become the firm’s hallmark.

The fund will deploy capital across European mid-market companies, partnering with ambitious entrepreneurs and management teams to accelerate growth through organic initiatives and strategic bolt-on acquisitions — the same formula that has driven consistent outperformance across Waterland’s previous flagship funds.

Strong Global Institutional Demand

WPEF X attracted strong demand from a high-calibre, globally diversified investor base. Waterland’s investors span the full spectrum of institutional capital, including pension funds, asset managers, insurance companies, sovereign wealth funds, endowments, foundations, and family offices, with commitments sourced from Europe, North and South America, Asia, and the Middle East.

The fund was materially oversubscribed thanks to continued strong support from existing investors as well as significant interest from new LPs. The pace of the close, under four months from launch, reflects both the scarcity value of established mid-market European buy-and-build platforms and the sustained appetite of institutional investors for differentiated strategies with proven track records.

Cedric Van Cauwenberghe, Group Managing Partner at Waterland, described the closing as a testament to the deep trust that LPs place in the team and in its ability to deliver its European buy-and-build strategy, thanking investors for their significant and continued vote of confidence. He emphasised that the new capital will be deployed in partnership with ambitious entrepreneurs to accelerate growth across fragmented European markets.
