Alfasigma Acquires Nordic Group B.V., Adding €190M Revenue and Expanding Specialty Care

Alfasigma acquires Nordic Group B.V., adding €190M revenue and expanding presence in Europe, Canada, and Japan. Read about the strategic deal and growth plans.

Alfasigma S.p.A., a global pharmaceutical company headquartered in Bologna, Italy, has entered into a definitive agreement to acquire 100% of Nordic Group B.V., a privately owned specialty pharmaceutical firm based in the Netherlands from Sever Life Sciences. The transaction, announced on August 11, 2026, expands Alfasigma’s footprint in specialty care, particularly in immunology and gastroenterology, and adds an estimated €190 million in revenue for 2025.

While financial terms remain undisclosed, the acquisition includes Nordic Pharma’s established rheumatoid arthritis business, notably the Nordimet® methotrexate franchise, which complements Alfasigma’s existing Jyseleca® franchise. The deal also incorporates Nordic Pharma’s portfolios in women’s health, critical care, and ophthalmology, along with its 265 specialized employees.

Nordic Group B.V. operates directly in 18 European countries and maintains commercial platforms in Canada and Japan. This acquisition significantly broadens Alfasigma’s geographic reach, adding new markets and reinforcing its presence in Europe.

Alfasigma, founded over 75 years ago, focuses on specialty and rare disease pharmaceuticals with a strategic emphasis on gastroenterology, immunology, and vascular health. The company distributes products in more than 100 markets worldwide and employs approximately 4,000 people. Nordic Pharma, headquartered in Hoofddorp, Netherlands, is known for its diversified portfolio of branded and niche pharmaceutical products marketed across Europe and select international markets.

Francesco Balestrieri, CEO of Alfasigma, stated, “This acquisition marks a decisive step forward in our strategy to build a global specialty and rare disease business. By combining our portfolios and expertise, we strengthen our European presence and expand our rheumatology offerings, positioning us to deliver meaningful innovation and value for patients and shareholders.”

Charlotte Phelps, CEO of Nordic Group B.V., added, “Alfasigma is the right partner as we enter our next growth phase. Both companies share a patient-focused and scientific approach, and we look forward to leveraging our combined experience to support patients.”

The acquisition aligns with Alfasigma’s M&A-driven growth strategy, following recent portfolio expansions such as the acquisition of Jyseleca® and a licensing agreement with GSK for linerixibat. The integration is expected to generate synergies through cross-selling opportunities, operational efficiencies, and enhanced R&D collaboration.

Market analysts note that this deal strengthens Alfasigma’s competitive position in specialty immunology and rheumatology, particularly in Europe, while expanding its reach into Canada and Japan. The consolidation accelerates industry trends toward portfolio diversification and geographic expansion in specialty pharmaceuticals.

Key integration challenges include aligning corporate cultures across multiple countries, managing regulatory approvals, and integrating commercial platforms without disrupting customer relationships. Regulatory clearance and customary closing conditions remain pending.

Looking ahead, Alfasigma plans to harmonize product portfolios and leverage Nordic Pharma’s commercial infrastructure to accelerate market access and revenue growth. The acquisition is expected to enhance Alfasigma’s ability to innovate in specialty care and rare diseases, supporting long-term shareholder value.
