RS Participaties announces a significant investment in Booom B.V., the developer of Booomtag, a digital platform designed to help brands and manufacturers comply with the forthcoming European Digital Product Passport (DPP) regulations. The investment, announced on October 7, 2026, will enable Booomtag to accelerate the development of its platform and expand into new industry verticals and international markets.

Booomtag provides a digital twin for each product through NFC tags or QR codes, allowing consumers and brands to access detailed product passports. These passports include brand, product, and sustainability information accessible via any smartphone without requiring an app. The platform supports compliance with Extended Producer Responsibility, Life Cycle Assessment, and Product Environmental Footprint requirements, storing product and consumer data in a GDPR-compliant environment with dashboards offering insights into product performance and user engagement.

Under the European Ecodesign regulation, the Digital Product Passport will become mandatory for various product groups in the coming years. This legislation requires products to carry a digital identity detailing origin, materials, repairability, and recyclability. Booomtag’s use of the GS1 Digital Link standard ensures its solution aligns with these regulatory demands and is scalable internationally.

Unlike many DPP solutions that focus solely on regulatory compliance, Booomtag connects the product passport directly with consumers. Users can register products in a personal wallet containing ownership and contact details, enabling finders to identify owners in case of loss or emergencies. This feature allows brands to maintain ongoing relationships with customers beyond the point of sale, turning regulatory compliance into a commercial opportunity.

Booomtag is already operational, serving brands and dealers in the watersport sector, where equipment value and safety are critical. This established base supports the company’s planned expansion into sports, outdoor, cycling, and textile sectors. Founder Rogier Dekker leads a team recognized for delivering on its vision, a factor RS Participaties highlights as equally important as the product itself.

Robin Smit, director of RS Participaties, states, “European regulation creates an unavoidable market for thousands of brands. Booomtag offers a working product, a strong foothold in watersports, and an approach that combines compliance with added value for brands and consumers. This investment has a clear growth trajectory.”

The investment does not disclose financial terms but is described as substantial. It is expected to generate synergies through shared technology development, consolidated sales efforts, and enhanced regulatory expertise. Booomtag’s platform is positioned to strengthen its market share in Europe and beyond by leveraging regulatory-driven demand and expanding into new sectors.

Challenges ahead include aligning technology roadmaps, scaling operations internationally, and ensuring compliance with diverse data privacy laws. However, the deal is anticipated to accelerate industry consolidation and increase competitive pressure on other DPP providers, prompting innovation and potential partnerships within the sector.

Looking forward, Booomtag plans to use the investment to enhance its platform’s capabilities, deepen consumer engagement, and broaden its geographic footprint. The company aims to capitalize on mandatory EU regulations to build long-term client relationships and monetize product and consumer data insights.
