Waterland Private Equity acquires stake in Terr’Asia, boosting growth of authentic Asian and Mexican food supplier across Europe. Learn more about the deal.
Waterland Private Equity has taken a strategic stake in Terr’Asia, an integrated French supplier specializing in authentic Asian and Mexican food products. The investment, announced in October 2026, aims to support Terr’Asia’s continued expansion in France and across Europe, working closely with the existing management team who are increasing their ownership and will remain at the helm.
Founded in 1993 and based in Saint-Genis-Laval near Lyon, Terr’Asia imports and distributes over 240 products spanning Asian and Tex-Mex cuisines. Its portfolio includes rice, instant noodles, coconut products, sauces, and soy sauce, sourced directly from approximately 40 producers across Thailand, China, Vietnam, Cambodia, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Japan, and Mexico. The company serves more than 6,000 independent retailers and wholesalers through grocery retail, foodservice, and specialist stores.
Terr’Asia has demonstrated strong organic growth, nearly doubling its revenue over the past five years and achieving close to 20% annual growth since 2021. Its proprietary sourcing network and in-house quality control enable it to maintain product authenticity and deliver superior service to customers.
Waterland’s investment will focus on three key areas: strengthening Terr’Asia’s presence in grocery retail and foodservice channels, expanding its product range to include additional world cuisines with an emphasis on Tex-Mex, and pursuing targeted acquisitions in France and Europe. The long-term goal is to consolidate complementary businesses into a pan-European platform for authentic world food.
Terr’Asia’s management highlighted the company’s evolution from a sourcing agent to a fully integrated supplier with recognized brands and trusted partnerships. They emphasized the need for a shareholder like Waterland, which brings industrial expertise and an entrepreneurial culture to support both organic growth and acquisition strategies.
Waterland Private Equity described Terr’Asia as an entrepreneurial success story positioned in a growing and fragmented market. The firm sees significant potential to scale the business and establish it as Europe’s leading platform for authentic Asian and world cuisines.
The food distribution sector in Europe is experiencing consolidation, driven by increasing consumer demand for diverse and authentic international cuisines. Terr’Asia’s strengthened position and expanded product offering are expected to intensify competitive pressure on regional suppliers and accelerate industry consolidation.
Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. Waterland’s backing is expected to enable Terr’Asia to leverage economies of scale in procurement, optimize logistics, and enhance its private-label business, thereby improving margins and operational efficiency.
Looking ahead, Terr’Asia plans to integrate future acquisitions carefully to maintain product quality and authenticity while navigating regulatory and supply chain complexities across multiple European markets. The partnership with Waterland aims to balance growth ambitions with operational autonomy and brand integrity.
This investment marks a significant step in Terr’Asia’s journey to become a European leader in authentic Asian and Mexican food distribution, capitalizing on rising consumer interest and expanding retail channels.
