Videoland to Acquire Viaplay Nederland Streaming Operations

Videoland acquires Viaplay Nederland’s streaming business, expanding its Dutch market presence. Deal expected to close soon, pending regulatory approval.

Videoland, owned by DPG Media, has agreed to acquire the Dutch streaming and broadcasting operations of Viaplay Group for EUR 142 million (approximately SEK 1.57 billion) on a cash and debt-free basis. The transaction, announced on July 1, 2026, remains subject to regulatory approvals, consent from Viaplay’s lenders, and other customary closing conditions, with completion expected in the coming months.

The acquisition aligns with Viaplay Group’s strategic transformation, allowing the company to sharpen its focus on its core Nordic markets, where it benefits from greater scale and operational synergies. According to Viaplay, the sale proceeds will accelerate the deleveraging of its balance sheet and further strengthen its financial profile following the acquisition of the remaining stake in Allente Group and its refinancing completed at the end of 2025.

Viaplay’s Dutch operations generated net sales of EUR 149 million (approximately SEK 1.65 billion) in 2025. While the transaction will result in restructuring costs, provisions, and other balance sheet effects upon closing, Viaplay confirmed that the divestment will not impact its full-year 2026 financial targets or its long-term strategic ambitions.

Videoland is one of the Netherlands’ leading streaming platforms, offering a broad portfolio of local and international entertainment content. The acquisition of Viaplay Nederland strengthens its position in the competitive Dutch streaming market by adding a complementary subscriber base, premium sports rights, and an expanded content library.

The transaction reflects the continued consolidation of the European streaming sector as providers seek greater scale, broader content offerings, and improved operating efficiencies. For Videoland, the acquisition is expected to create opportunities for subscriber growth, cross-selling, enhanced content offerings, and increased monetization through a larger audience.

Operational synergies are anticipated through the consolidation of technology platforms, customer service operations, marketing activities, and content acquisition. The combined platform is also expected to benefit from improved data analytics and more personalized content recommendations.

As with any large-scale integration, challenges remain, including aligning technology infrastructures, managing customer communications, integrating teams, and harmonizing content licensing agreements. Both companies expect existing services to continue uninterrupted until the transaction has been completed.

Upon completion, the acquisition will further strengthen Videoland’s position in the Dutch streaming market while enabling Viaplay Group to concentrate its resources on its Nordic operations and long-term strategic priorities.
