Horsburgh & Scott, a Cleveland-based industrial gearing solutions provider and portfolio company of private equity firm GenNx360 Capital Partners, has acquired Franklin Machine & Gear, a family-owned gear and gearbox manufacturing and repair company headquartered in Houston, Texas. The acquisition, announced on April 14, 2026, aims to strengthen Horsburgh & Scott’s service capabilities and expand its presence into the Gulf Coast region.

While the financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed, the deal involves a full acquisition of Franklin Machine & Gear. The integration will combine Franklin’s precision machining and manufacturing expertise with Horsburgh & Scott’s established engineering and repair platform. Franklin’s co-owners, Eddy and Larry Franklin, along with General Manager Tom Patton, will remain with the company to support ongoing operations and growth.

Founded in 1886, Horsburgh & Scott specializes in custom-engineered industrial gears and gearboxes for heavy industrial sectors such as steel, mining, energy, marine, and defense. The company operates multiple facilities across Ohio, Illinois, Louisiana, and Ontario, providing turnkey engineering, manufacturing, repair, and field services.

Franklin Machine & Gear, established in 1974, offers comprehensive gear and gearbox manufacturing and repair services, including CNC turning and milling, bevel gearing, gear hobbing, grinding, and gearbox rebuilding. Serving diverse end markets, Franklin has built a strong reputation in the Houston area and broader Gulf Coast industrial sector.

Randy Burdick, CEO of Horsburgh & Scott, stated, “We are excited to welcome Franklin Machine & Gear into the Horsburgh & Scott family. Franklin’s precision machining and gear manufacturing capabilities are a natural complement to our existing platform, and their strong reputation in the Houston market will help extend our reach into the Gulf Coast region. We look forward to working with Franklin’s talented team as we continue to grow H&S into a comprehensive gearing solutions provider.”

GenNx360 Managing Partner Monty Yort highlighted the strategic importance of the acquisition, saying, “H&S’s acquisition of Franklin represents an important step in our growth strategy, adding precision machining capabilities and expanding the platform’s geographic footprint into the Gulf Coast. We are looking forward to continuing to execute upon the H&S growth strategy with Randy and his team.”

The acquisition is expected to generate synergies by cross-selling gear and gearbox solutions across complementary end markets and consolidating procurement and administrative functions. Operationally, integrating Franklin’s precision machining with Horsburgh & Scott’s engineering and manufacturing platform will enhance the combined company’s service offerings.

Market analysts note that this deal strengthens Horsburgh & Scott’s position as a leading industrial gearing solutions provider by broadening its geographic reach and product capabilities. The combined entity is likely to increase competitive pressure on regional and national industrial gear service providers, potentially accelerating industry consolidation.

Key integration challenges include aligning corporate cultures between a family-owned business and a private equity-backed platform, retaining critical leadership and technical talent, and harmonizing operational systems across multiple facilities.

Looking ahead, Horsburgh & Scott plans to leverage Franklin’s customer relationships to deepen market penetration and drive innovation by combining engineering and precision machining expertise. The companies will focus on seamless integration to maintain service quality and capitalize on growth opportunities in heavy industrial sectors.
