Amsterdam, February 4, 2026 – The Sharing Group has acquired a minority stake in WePositive, a startup focused on developing smart energy hubs. This collaboration seeks to address grid congestion issues that have stalled the construction of over 500,000 homes across the Netherlands.

The investment will deepen the partnership between the two companies, enabling local energy sharing and management to facilitate new housing developments. WePositive is currently developing a district energy management system that connects homes, smart devices, and existing Energy Management Systems (EMS) to optimize energy use.

Yanick Slikboer, founder and CEO of WePositive, stated, “We add a decentralized, district-level layer that operates beyond individual grid connections, coordinating local energy assets while being designed to function in thousands of neighborhoods. The collaboration with The Sharing Group accelerates the scaling of this model.”

The Sharing Group, known for its sharing economy ventures such as Mijndomein, MyWheels, EnergyZero, and Hegg Energy, aims to leverage WePositive’s technology to enhance its People’s Power Plant initiative. This initiative promotes a fair, transparent, and decentralized energy system where residents maintain control over their energy consumption.

Henri de Jong, founder and CEO of The Sharing Group, emphasized the strategic importance of this partnership, saying, “Their technical expertise, ongoing projects, and strong network among property developers accelerate our ambition to realize a shareable energy market, with congestion management and local energy trading at its core.”

WePositive, founded in 2024, has quickly grown to a team of seven, driven by increasing market demand for innovative energy solutions. The company is currently running several pilot projects, including one in the Mandora eco-district in Houten, where approximately 30 households are participating in an energy-sharing initiative. Residents benefit from insights into their energy consumption and can share locally generated energy, receiving rewards for shared kilowatt-hours.

In addition to promoting awareness and behavioral change, WePositive focuses on automation through electric vehicles, home batteries, and district batteries. The company also contributes to the development of an open S2 ecosystem, a project aimed at the smart, independent, and interoperable control of devices within residential neighborhoods.

As the partnership unfolds, both companies will work towards integrating their technologies and aligning their operational processes. This collaboration is expected to enhance their market positions and create new revenue streams from energy services, while also addressing the urgent need for sustainable housing solutions.

Looking ahead, the partnership between The Sharing Group and WePositive is poised to reshape the energy landscape in residential districts, unlocking potential for housing development and promoting sustainability in the face of grid congestion challenges.
